Sheltering in place

The Dwelling Place continues to overflow with laughter, joy, and activity as our family of brothers and caregivers has been sheltered in a most beautiful place. All our staff and The Amigos have had good health, adding to our thankfulness. We pray that each of you has also been blessed with joy, peace, laughter, and health through this challenging season.

In these days, most of our community integration activities are on hold, as the places we would go each week—library, gym, grocery store, bowling alley—are temporarily closed. So, making jump ropes for Ultraspeed counts as a double blessing in this time! In fact, orders for jump ropes have sharply increased as, across the country, families are looking for activities they can do at home, and new ways to have fun exercising.

We have celebrated four Amigo and staff birthdays in the past few weeks. Our “Birthday Bonanza” featured a cowboy menu with everyone wearing bold cowboy hats!

Highlights of these spring weeks include meeting in the
front row of our family room for online church, greeting friends and neighbors in our big yard and roasting hot dogs on long sticks—so careful spacing can happen! We’ve also had fun bringing a song to some of you from your front yards. Every day has brought an opportunity to be thankful for the blessings that continue to flow.

Lord, you have been our dwelling place
throughout all generations.
Before the mountains were born
or you brought forth the whole world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
— Psalm 90:1-2

It has been great to see some of you on Zoom visits across the miles. We’ve been praying for all of you, as you have also been encouraging us with your kind gifts and prayers. We know God is with us and we live moment by moment in His loving care.

As spring takes hold in the valley, we’re going on more frequent, vigorous walks in our beautiful outdoors. Leavenworth might just be the most beautiful corner in the world for “sheltering in place!”

In these uncertain times, we want you to know how greatly we value every thoughtful prayer and gift from our friends and family that sustain The Amigos’ joy-filled and active quality of life. You are also enabling The Amigos to continue their special contribution to the close-knit, friendly, loving and accepting community we are part of.

If you’d like to drop in for a Zoom visit or discuss other ways to be involved, please reach out to us!
